An Ode to the Wonderful Waffle

waffle

The waffle, wonderful as it may be, has been a part of American culture for centuries.

Since it was reportedly discovered by the pilgrims in 1620, the notoriety of the waffle as a staple of American breakfast has only continued to grow (and rightly so).

Let’s Talk About the Waffle

Today, waffles are still a most delicious part of our mornings, and there is no shortage of things to love about them. This post is dedicated to what makes the waffle so wonderful.

The Perfect Waffle

So, how do you make the perfect waffle? The key is to get each divot to hold the perfect amount of butter and syrup.

In the 1790s, some say Thomas Jefferson inspired a mini American waffle crazy when he visited France and came back with a waffle iron. This is the secret to the perfect divots.

Look for the waffle iron that will allow you to get the right amount of butter and syrup in each indentation. When you find your magic waffle maker, don’t let it go.

Sweet or Savory

Not in the mood for something sweet? One of the best parts about waffles is their versatility.

If you’re looking for something savory, throw some fried chicken in the mix. Chicken and waffles is the perfect combination of sweet, salty and satisfying.

Find a seasoning that you like, and your favorite fried chicken recipe, and start crafting your perfect morning meal.

If your sweet tooth is calling your name, grab your favorite waffle iron and go for the traditional buttermilk flavor with sweet maple syrup–and maybe even some whipped cream and powdered sugar.

Toppings Galore

When it comes to waffle toppings, there are so many perfect pairings to choose from that sometimes it’s hard to pick just one.

Whether you choose a warm, fruity topping to drizzle over your morning waffles or you indulge with some decadent mini chocolate chips and whipped cream, you’re not likely to leave the breakfast table disappointed.

Try a Waffle Bar

If you’re having a family gathering or event and looking for something unique to spice things up, try a breakfast option that includes a waffle bar.

There are a variety of toppings to choose from, so pick a few that you think will wow your guests. Here are some of our favorites:

    • Sliced strawberries
    • Blueberries or raspberries
    • Sliced bananas
    • Sliced apples and cinnamon
    • Peanut butter
    • Chopped Peanuts
    • Chocolate Chips
    • Mini cheesecake bites
    • Yogurt, granola, and honey
      • Ice cream
    • Warm chocolate fudge

Fluffy or Crunchy? You Don’t Have to Choose

The best waffles are a perfect combination of crisp, golden, and fluffy–all at the same time.

If you’re trying to perfect this combination of fluffy and crunchy on your own, here are a few tips to help you get it right at home:

    • Use buttermilk or regular milk (never water)
    • Splurge on a quality waffle maker
      • Take your time (don’t get antsy and start making waffles before the iron is hot)

If you’re short on time (or just don’t feel like cooking), you’re always welcome at our table. Stop in and let us hand deliver you the perfect waffle or any other breakfast or lunch treat you want!
